2 EAGLES CROWNED 2003 DAKTRONICS-NAIA ALL-AMERICAN
SCHOLAR ATHLETES
The news was released in late
November that the Embry-Riddle Women's Volleyball Program
officially added two more names to the distinguished list
of All-American Scholar Athletes. Congratulations to team
co-captains Kimberly Miller (JR-Setter) and Susan Wells
(SO-Outside Hitter).
Six women's volleyball student-athletes,
in the program's 7 year history, have earned this prestigious
honor. The company that Kim and Susie keep are Rachel Tuilesu
(2000-Computer Science), Talia Brewer (2001-Aeronautial
Science), Janice Ramirez (2001 - STG), and Rachelle Tetherow
(2001 - STG).
Embry-Riddle Women's Volleyball
and the University are extremely proud of this combination
athletic and academic accomplishment.
DAYTONA BEACH, FL (11/6/03)
The Eagles of Prescott matched skills with
the Eagles of Daytona Beach in the inaugural competition
of any sports teams from the two campuses. Unfortunately
for the Prescott team, the first year's bragging rights
belong to Daytona Beach.
"In order to have a chance at victory,
certain individual and team statistical targets are set
and must be reached. On this night, none of these were
achieved." However, after all is said and done, this
trip to Daytona was a worthwile venture. The barrier is
down, standards have been set, and a healthy rivalry has
begun. What should be a long standing battle will be well
worth following! You can catch these two teams in action
in Prescott in the 2004 season.
Final game scores were: 13-20, 18-30, 28-30
(ERAU - Daytona Beach)
PRESCOTT, AZ (10/27/03)
Embry-Riddle defeated the Gauchos of Glendale
Community College in the final home match of the 2003 season.
What a match! This night was it for seniors Kristen Parker
and Tianna Prokopuk and they went out with a bang. Both
seniors posted double-double performances - Kristen with
17 kills (.297 hitting %) and 14 digs, Tianna with 15 kills
(.257 hitting %) and 11 digs.
Rounding out this stellar statistical night
were junior opposite, Sara Benko with 11 kills (.172 hitting
%) and 10 digs (3rd season double-double), sophomore outside
hitter, Susan Wells with 16 kills (.342 hitting %) and
24 digs (1st season double-double), and freshman middle,
Lauren Nouis with 6 kills (.400 hitting %) and 12 digs.
After the match was over,
Coach Meyer had this to say: "Unbelievable! Absolutely everything
we have worked on during this season came together against
a very solid Glendale team." "I have a tremendous
amount of respect for the work ethic and coaching ability
of Lisa Stuck (Head Coach, GCC) and to have my team defeat
her team is a huge personal accomplishment in my career!" "I
am so proud of my team tonight."
Final game scores were: 30-28, 27-30, 30-24,
23-30, 16-14 (Embry-Riddle University)
RIVERSIDE, CA (10/25/03)
"So close..." That
is all that can be said for this 5 game nail biter between
the Eagles
of Embry-Riddle and the Lancers of California Baptist.
Games 1 and 4 belonged solely to the Eagles, games 2 and
3 belonged solely to the Lancers. But game 5...well, it
was up for grabs. But in the end, after finally taking
a match into the fifth game, the Lancers came out ahead,
15-13. In many statistical categories, the Eagles outperformed
the Lancers, but an off night of passing made a win very
difficult.
The most effective offensive players on this
night included Senior Middle Tianna Prokopuk who recorded
16 kills on 39 attempts (.282%) and Junior Setter Kimberly
Miller who recorded 6 kills on 16 attempts (.375%).
Defensively, all but one starter contributed
double digit defensive stats. INCREDIBLE.
On another positive note, 3 players turned
in double/double's (double digit attacks and digs). Junior
Opposite Hitter Sara Benko recorded her 3rd with 11 kills
and 16 digs, Senior Outside Hitter Kristen Parker recorded
her 2nd with 11 kills and 13 digs, and Senior Middle Tianna
Prokopuk recorded her 1st with 16 kills and 15 digs.
Final game scores were: 33-31, 19-30, 15-30,
13-15 (California Baptist University)
FULLERTON, CA (10/24/03)
In an exciting 4 game match against Hope
International Unvierstiy, the Eagles tallied 46 team kills
on 146 attempts (.171 hitting percentage), 4 team service
aces, 7 team blocks, and 55 team digs.
The ERAU player of the night goes to Senior
Outside Hitter Kristen Parker who recorded 13 kills on
38 attempts (.237%) and 11 digs, giving Kristen her second
double/double for the 2003 season. Accompanying Kristen's
overall game were strong individual performances from Senior
Middle Tianna Prokopuk with 9 kills on 29 attempts (.241%),
Junior Opposite Sara Benko with 12 digs, and Sophomore
Outside Susie Wells with 13 digs.
Final game scores were: 30-16, 12-30, 25-30,
26-30 (Hope International). Archived
